Tonight is National Night Out. Port Huron Police will be visiting several block parties and other events throughout the city as part of the long-running anti-crime campaign. Sargent Doug Decker says that since many people only interact with police during the worst circumstances, this is allows officers and citizens to get to know each other in a more relaxed setting. Officers will be out on foot, in patrol cars, and on their newly-purchased segues, which made their debut earlier this summer. Several block parties are planned throughout the city tonight, as citizens are encouraged to leave their porch lights on and get out to meet their neighbors. National Night Out has been on the first Tuesday in August since 1984.
