Flint leads comments at State of the State
Governor Rick Snyder Tuesday apologized to the residents of Flint, and promised to release emails of events leading up and through the discovery of dangerous lead levels in Flint's water system. It was the centerpiece of a most unusual State of the State address, where he promised Flint and Michigan residents that he will fix the problem and will not let such a thing happen again. The governor also called on lawmakers to approve a $28 million supplemental appropriation for Flint, which will be considered by the Michigan House Appropriations Committee this week. While the Flint issue consumed a significant portion of the address, the governor also asked lawmakers to approve a plan to help get Detroit Public Schools out of financial trouble, saying failure to act will cost all Michigan taxpayers. The long running effort to build another large lock at the Soo Locks in Sault Ste. Marie was also addressed by the governor, as he asked the congressional delegation to push hard for federal funding.
