Two Port Huron teens were involved in an early Monday morning crash in Macomb County in which their vehicle crashed into a police car. It happened just after midnight Monday on westbound I-94 near Little Mack when a Macomb Sheriff’s deputy positioned his patrol car with overhead lights activated in far left lane due to another crash. An SUV driving at a high rate of speed struck the deputy’s patrol car from behind, causing significant damage to both vehicles. The Sheriff’s deputy was able to jump out of the path of the oncoming vehicle. The 18 year old driver and 19 year old passenger of the SUV, both from Port Huron, were taken to an area hospital for evaluation. Sheriff’s deputies say the driver did not show any signs of impairment but both vehicles involved in the crash were totaled. Macomb County Sheriff’s Deputies are remind the public that drivers are required to move over to an open lane of traffic or reduce speed by at least 10 miles per hour when approaching an emergency vehicle.
