Homeowners with property along the Great Lakes will be able to temporarily install structures to combat erosion without a permit under a bill passed by the Michigan
Senate on Thursday. The legislation was passed by the chamber on a party-line 22-16 vote. State Senator Roger Victory told a Senate committee last week that people should be able to save their homes “without red tape.” The bill comes as shoreline property owners struggle with record-high water levels. The legislation was opposed by Democrats and environmental groups.
