One is dead following a two car accident near Metcalf and State Roads yesterday in Fort Gratiot Township. James Gorrell, a 44 year old Burtchville Township man was driving westbound on Metcalf Road, east of State around 12:30pm Tuesday. According to the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department, Gorrell’s car crossed the center line on Metcalf and was struck by an eastbound SUV driven by a 69 year old Metamora woman. Gorrell was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash and the SUV driver was taken to an area hospital with undisclosed injuries. Metcalf between State and Lakeshore was closed fore several hours yesterday for investigations. St. Clair County Sheriff’s Deputies were assisted by Fort Gratiot Fire and Rescue and Tri-Hospital EMS. Authorities say the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
