Celebrations were in order last night for the developers of a recently completed loft project in Downtown Port Huron. Local business and elected officials flocked to the top of the Ballentine Building at Huron and Quay Streets for a ribbon cutting ceremony for Landmark Development’s newest building rehab. Larry Jones of Landmark Development tells WPHM the building includes 19 lofts as well as commercial space on the first floor and a rooftop patio for use by the building’s residents. He says the project has been in the works for the better part of a decade and that there is strong demand for downtown housing. “They (the lofts) rented up faster than I could get them done,” said Jones. He adds that phase two of the project will be starting later this year at another building also in the 200 block of Huron Avenue. “People want to be in the downtown, where the entertainment is and where the fun is.”
