Legislation would tweak proposal two

The Michigan Senate has passed a bill that places more requirements on who can be on the redistricting commission under Proposal 2. Bill sponsor, Senator Phil Pavlov, says it would set guidelines for how the Secretary of State determines the political affiliation of potential commissioners. Senate Minority Leader Jim Ananich says the bill is not necessary because the new Secretary of State can do the work. Proposal 2 changes the way legislative districts in Michigan are drawn. Previously, state lawmakers drew district boundaries for house, senate, and congressional seats. Proposal 2, passed by voters last month, would appoint a commission of voters to draw political lines.
