The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department has released the identities of the two individuals who drowned in Black River. Authorities say 47 year old Robert John Lewandowski of Port Huron and 32 year old Sumith Jacob Alex of Clinton Township died yesterday. The incident happened just after 2:30pm on the Black River between the I-94 overpass and Domtar Paper. Lewandowski had fallen out of an inflatable dinghy and Alex, who was on a pontoon boat, had jumped in to help. The St. Clair County Dive Team located the body of Lewandowski who was found in 16 feet deep waters around 8:30pm on Wednesday. Alex was found 25 feet upstream of Lewandowski about an hour later. The water temperature was reported to be 62 degrees. The U.S. Coast Guard assisted in the recuse attempts.
