Barricaded man sets own home on fire, shoots at deputies

Lapeer County Sheriff’s Deputies rescued a barricaded gunman from a structure fire over the weekend. Deputies received a call from a relative of a 50 year old North Branch man who had intentions of harming himself. When authorities arrived at the house on Martus Road, smoke alarms were going off inside the house. Deputies attempted to enter the residence where the man proceeded to shoot at them. Negotiations transpired between deputies and the barricaded man. Authorities were able to get inside the house and removed the individual from the burning house through the basement window. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment, the deputy was uninjured in the rescue. North Branch and Deerfield Township Fire Department extinguished the structure fire.
