The Macomb County Health Department has recently been awarded the National Health Security Award, by the National Association of County and City Health Officials. The Department was given the award for its work with their Youth Pre-paredness Program. The program teaches students on how to talk with their parents about being pre-pared for emergencies like having communication plans, first aid kits and evacuation plans. In 2015 Macomb County’s Environmental Pre-paredness partnered with its Medical Reserve Corps, Macomb Intermediate School District and Oakland University’s School of Nursing to present emergency pre-paredness lessons to about 2000 fourth and fifth graders throughout Macomb County. The National Health Security Award is given to departments that have demonstrated significant accomplishments in implementing health security-related initiatives within their jurisdictions.
