Firearm Deer hunting season begins Today in Michigan, and with nearly 600,000 hunters expected to take to the woods this year, safety is important. Here are some safety tips for you during this years hunting season. Clearly identify your target before shooting to prevent unfortunate accidents or fatalities. Let someone know where you will be hunting and when you will return. When hunting near trails or developed areas be alert, other people may be in the forest as well. For non-hunters, be extra careful in game hunting areas. Wear bright clothing, orange vests and hats are advisable. Make yourself known. If you do hear shooting, raise your voice. let hunters know that you are in the vicinity by whistling, singing or by carrying on a conversation as you walk, people may think your crazy but at least you'll be safe. Also, be courteous. Once a hunter is aware of your presence, don’t make unnecessary noise to disturb wildlife.
