It's officially fall and during this time of year drivers have to be extra careful to avoid accidents with deer. St. Clair County had over 700 car-deer crashes last year, 29 of those accidents resulted in injuries to the driver. Neighboring counties Sanilac and Lapeer had over 1,000 car-deer accidents last year. If an accident is unavoidable Sheriff Donnellon says don't swerve, brake firmly, and keep both hands on the wheel. The Sheriff also noted to be aware of deer signs and if you see one deer, be cautious, because there will be more waiting.
