Port Huron Firefighters responded to a house fire in the 1200 block of 12th street Monday evening. Shortly before 7:30pm, smoke was spotted coming from the kitchen area of the home. Battalion Chief Chris Shattuck says nobody was home at the time but does tell WPHM one of the occupants of the home sustained minor injuries while attempting to put out the blaze. They were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation and later took themselves to an area hospital for further treatment of smoke inhalation. Two dogs and six cats inside the home were not injured and the extent of fire damage limited to the kitchen area, with moderate smoke and water damage throughout. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
