Emotions running high at Thursday night’s St. Clair County Board of Commissioners. Residents lined up to share their thoughts on allocating almost $10,000 in federal COVID relief funds to an LGBT community center in Port Huron. After two hours of comments, Chairperson Jeff Bohm addressed the packed room as well as commissioner Lisa Beedon, who sought to grant the money to Blue Water Allies.
“My intent is not to tell commissioners what priorities are in their district, I wanted to leave it up to each individual commissioner,” said Bohm. “I support and respect Lisa (Beedon) for bringing this forward and I support her.”
The motion to grant the funds to the Blue Water Allies Center passed 4 to 3. Also approved Thursday was the lease of a county-owned parking lot in the northwest corner of Merchant and Quay streets to the City of Port Huron to be used to accommodate visitors of Wrigley Hall.
