Monday is Martin Luther King Junior day and students in the Port Huron Area School District will spend the holiday learning about the legacy of Dr. King and the Civil Rights movement. Elementary school students will host volunteer members of the Port Huron branch of the NAACP who will read selected books, followed by engaging discussions. Students in Middle and High School will participate in a community service project at area non profits including the Blue Water Rescue Mission, New Life Women’s Mission, Carolyn’s Place, Pathways Homeless Shelter and Harbor for Youth. Superintendent Theo Kerhouals says MLK day is an important time to, “Not only learn about Dr. King’s remarkable work but also participate in projects that provide something of value to the community.”
