Our neighbors to the east are back under a mandatory lock down following a 30%  increase in coronavirus cases since the first of the month. As of Monday morning, the City of Sarnia and Lambton County re-entered the “grey-lockdown” phase which only allows for essential services to be open. Sarnia Mayor Mike Bradley tells WPHM he fears the county-by-county approach Canada is taking may only prologue the pandemic, and says he is calling for a Provincial approach. “In the society today – with mobility – I find it not very workable,” Bradley told WPHM.

Asked about when he might foresee non-essential border crossings to resume, Bradley speculated that the border could remain closed through much of the summer. “September is still a realistic deadline against our goal, if we get the vaccinations,” said Bradley. He added it will likely take 60% of the population of both countries to be vaccinated before we could see a reopening. The Blue Water Bridge and all border crossings with Canada have been closed to all but essential trade sine March 20th, 2020.
