A day after saying she wasn’t ready to open gyms, movie theaters and bowling alleys, Governor Whitmer signed an order allowing gyms and swimming pools in southern lower Michigan to reopen starting next Wednesday. The order today allows the reopening but those working out will have to wear masks at all times and gyms will have to limit capacity to 25-percent. In addition, the order also allows for organized sports to resume, but recommends against contact sports like football, soccer and basketball. Indoor sports will be limited to two guests of the athletes. For outdoor sports competitions, there can either be two guests per athlete or limit total attendance to 100 people including coaches, players and staff.  Even though the governor and health department recommended against it, the Michigan High School Athletic Association has re-instated the high school football season. Teams will start practicing next Tuesday. A six game season will be played starting in two weeks and all teams will be in the playoffs. Boys soccer will begin immediately with volleyball and swimming and diving starting next Wednesday. The Governor’s latest order says each player will be allowed two guests for games.
