42 acres of land in Burtchville Township is the latest acquisition by the Thumb Land Conservancy who hopes to establish a new park near the Lake Huron shoreline. The land is located on Metcalf just west of Lakeshore, and is part of a dozen non-contiguous preserves in the area that the Thumb Land Conservancy hopes to connect with a trail network. The Thumb Land Conservancy was able to purchase the property with funds from the Community Foundation of Southeast Michigan, Community Foundation of St. Clair County, the Consumers Energy Foundation, Cargill, and SEMCO Energy. Named the Bidwell Sanctuary, it will be dedicated October 3rd of this year with a ceremony held in conjunction with the Blue Water Indigenous Alliance of Port Huron.
