The Michigan House Agriculture Committee took a tour of the north-western part of the state on Friday. Committee members went on the trip to learn more about the region’s food production, including the growing role of breweries and wineries in the state. Dan Lauwers, chair of the Ag Committee, says Michigan's northwest corner has always been known for fruit production, but recently it has really taken off as a substantial wine a beer making area as well. He noted that the northwest corner of Michigan has really taken off as a substantial wine a beer making area, with malting barns popping up everywhere in the state. Lauwers says that people want to know more about where their food is coming from.
