St. John River District Hospital in St. Clair County is laying off 30 full-time employees and closing its Intensive Care Unit. The move is latest by owner Ascension, which has laid off workers at St. John Hospital and Medical Center in Detroit and Providence-Providence Park hospitals in Southfield and Novi in recent months. Officials say the layoffs and closures will leave just 16 beds open at St. John River District.
