St. Clair County Community College and Saginaw Valley State University have finalized a partnership that allows students to earn university degrees locally.
On Thursday, April 9th, SC4 President Kirk Kramer and SVSU President Dr. George Grant Jr. signed three agreements to integrate academic services between the two institutions.
The collaboration allows SVSU to offer its university curriculum and four-year degree program on the SC4 campus. While SVSU provides the accredited coursework and grants the degrees, SC4 provides the physical facilities and student support. This includes access to SC4’s academic advisors, tutors, and library services, as well as on-campus housing for SVSU students.
The partnership is designed to specifically benefit students who want to advance their education without commuting to SVSU’s main campus in Saginaw.
School officials stated the goal is to remove “roadblocks” for transfer students. Under the new terms, any SC4 graduate is now automatically admitted to SVSU without a separate application process. The policy is said to be intended to reduce paperwork and ensure students maintain eligibility for university scholarships.
The first specific program launched under this deal is a nursing path which allows students to work toward an SVSU Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) on the SC4 campus. President Kramer noted that while the partnership begins with nursing, the colleges are already planning to expand into business, criminal justice, social work, and education.
