A Canada-wide manhunt for the primary suspect in the fatal shooting of 20-year-old Dane Nisbet has ended this week with an arrest in London, Ontario.
Sarnia Police announced the capture of 24-year-old Kyaw “Chin” Doe Monday evening, ending a search that lasted nearly three weeks. Doe had been actively evading arrest since the early morning hours of April 10th, when gunfire erupted at the Lion’s Den campus bar at Lambton College, killing Nisbet and wounding two others.
Homicide investigators from the Sarnia Police Service identified a residence in the City of London where they believed Doe was hiding. With the assistance of the London Police Service and their Emergency Response Unit, officers contained the home. After a brief standoff, Doe eventually surrendered to police without further incident. He was arrested on-site and turned over to the Sarnia Police.
Doe, a resident of London, faces several charges in connection with the incident at the campus pub, including second-degree murder, two counts of attempted murder, and possession of a firearm while prohibited.
In a statement, Sarnia Police Chief Derek Davis extended his deepest condolences to the family and friends of Dane Nisbet, noting the devastating impact the loss has had on the community. He expressed hope that the arrest brings a small measure of comfort as the grief continues to be felt.
