Domtar Port Huron mill expected to close next year

The days are numbered for an over 100 year old paper mill in Port Huron. Domtar Paper is announcing that they plan to permanently close manufacturing at their Port Huron mill. In a press release issued Friday, the paper maker says the capacity reduction program is to, “Improve operating margins and maximize productivity and cash flow.” Port Huron’s mill as well three other Domtar facilities in the US are expected to close in the first quarter of 2021, affecting 780 employees in total. Following production cuts last year, the Domtar Port Huron mill currently employs about 212 people.
