An investigation into property damage at a St. Clair Little League baseball field has been resolved, thanks to a combination of security cameras and quick community action.
St. Clair Police responded to the Fred Moore Highway park Sunday afternoon after receiving reports of damage to the bathroom facilities. Security footage from the night before captured two masked individuals walking through the park and entering the bathroom.
Damage was reportedly confined to the men’s bathroom and included large portions of porcelain from a toilet bowl that were broken off and left in pieces on the floor, block windows that were broken out, a sink left running that flooded the floor, and a red substance smeared across the room.
After the Little League board shared the information on social media Tuesday, community members identified the suspects within an hour, leading to confessions from two juvenile males.
The league is currently seeking damage estimates before determining whether to pursue criminal charges or restitution.
Police Chief Don Ennis noted this is the second park vandalism case resolved in two weeks, crediting the city’s newly installed security cameras for helping solving both crimes.
