The Optimist Park Skatepark is finally getting a grand opening after years of planning and fundraising. Presented by the Port Huron Parks and Recreation Department, the event is taking place  Saturday May 20th at 10am at the park on Whipple Street. A ribbon cutting celebration is being followed with some special presentations and even demonstrations from skate veterans. Made of concrete as a permanent attraction to the area, the project has been in the works since May of 2018 and has received funding from numerous sources. The new skatepark was bolstered by a sizable sizable grant from The Skatepark Project, formally known as the Tony Hawk Foundation, as well as grassroots fundraising, and private donations. The Optimist Skatepark is now open for people of all ages and skill levels.
