Despite high gas prices, Americans will be traveling in record numbers this 4th of July. AAA of Michigan estimates 1.7 million Michiganders will travel 50 miles or more this holiday weekend, up 10% from last year’s weekend, and slightly higher than the same period of time in 2019.

Air travel is expected to be down amid ongoing staffing problems and flight cancellations, with the vast majority of Americans expected to hit the roads. Gas prices across the nation are dropping, but Michigan continues to outpace the national average at $5.04. The most expensive gas right now is reported in metro Detroit, Ann Arbor and Marquette.
