Gas prices in Michigan set a new two-year record this past week. According to AAA of Michigan, drivers are now paying an average of $2.84 per gallon for regular unleaded, which is up 13 cents compared to last week. This price is 11 cents more than this time last month and $1.21 more than this time last year. The auto club says tightening supplies and increased demand as reason for the increase. The most expensive gas can be found in the central UP where it is nearly 3-dollars a gallon and the cheapest fuel is in the northern lower peninsula where it’s $2.78 a gallon. Port Huron area pumps are just slightly below the statewide average, asking about $2.83 for a gallon of regular unleaded.
