Governor Gretchen Whitmer Wednesday announced that the state will soon be allowing more people to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. Michiganders over the age of 65, first responders, and preK-12 teachers will be among the next group to be offered the vaccine starting Monday. “The more people we can get the safe and effective vaccine, the faster we can return to a sense of normalcy,” said Governor Whitmer. “I urge all seniors to get the COVID-19 vaccine as soon as possible and that all Michiganders to make a plan to get vaccinated when it becomes available to you.” Currently, only those who work in healthcare and at congregate long term care facilities were eligible for the injection. Whitmer Wednesday declined to say if restaurants and bars would reopen when the current restriction expire next week. She told reporters that she has not yet made a decision whether or not to extend the ban past the current January 15th expiration date.
