Pot shop ordinance approved by council

Port Huron City Council okayed a recreational marijuana ordinance Monday. Approved on a 4-to-2 margin, the ordinance allows up to three retailers as well as one transporter, micro-business, and safety compliance facility. Growers, processors, and consumption lounges would not be allowed in the city. The ordinance will take effect October 11th of this year.

At long last, the city of Port Huron could legalize the sale of recreational marijuana in the city tonight. The pair of ordinance, scheduled to have a second public hearing and enactment this evening, sets limits on how many pot shops can be in the city and where they can be located. If adopted tonight, the ordinance would take effect October 11th. The 2020 Spirit of Port Huron civic awards winners will be announced by Mayor Pauline Repp at tonight’s council meeting as well. Council also asked to approve bids for new trucks to be used by the streets and forestry departments, as well as proposals for bridge inspections of city-owned drawbridges, and a payment to Emterra Environmental for park trash removal. Tonight’s meeting takes place at 7pm at the Municipal Office Center.
