The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Office of Rural Development is announcing nearly $5-million worth of loans and grants that will go towards improving the village of Lexington’s water systems. According to Congressman Paul Mitchell, the grants will help the village, “make much needed improvements to their drinking water and wastewater infrastructure.” The funding package includes about $3.6-million  in low interest loans and about $1.3-million in grants. The Village of Lexington will use the funds to add two filters at the Lexington water treatment plant, construct a new 500,000 gallon ground storage tank, and replace existing water meters, among other things.
