What would have been the biggest party night of the year in Port Huron turned out to be not much more than your average Friday night downtown. Port Huron Police are reporting no incidents stemming from Boat Night, the traditional celebration leading up to the start of the Bayview Mackinac Race. Sergeant Doug Decker tells WPHM that police had special details stationed downtown in preparation for the large crowds. However, due to the small crowds, Decker says the extra officers were called off duty around 10pm Friday night. “The boat night crows were pretty low,” said Decker. “A lot of people made the election not to come down.” The night before the race usually draws thousands to downtown Port Huron. Due to the pandemic, officials called off Blue Water fest as well as nearly every event and festivity leading up to the race with the exception of the race itself.
