Every officer with the Port Huron Police Department will soon be getting their own body camera. During Monday night’s regular session meeting of Port Huron City Council, the purchase of just over $24,000 dollars worth of new police body cameras was approved. Council members kept their distance by dispersing throughout the room and wearing masks. Port Huron Mayor Pauline Repp tells WPHM the additional cameras will be used to equip 25 police officers. When combined with the existing body cameras that have been deployed, every Port Huron Police Officer will now have their own camera. Repp says the new cameras do not have facial recognition capabilities. 25 new tasers will also be purchased by the city for approximately $43,000.

Council members will also received and filed two liquor license transfer of ownership requests for establishments in the 300 block of Huron avenue owned by Larry Jones. A bid for just over $1.3 million dollars was awarded to the Weiss Construction Company for work at the wastewater treatment plant. An agreement with Clean Cut Maintenance was approved Monday for the amount of $1500 per mowing for lawn maintenance at various city owned parks. Council members were also briefed by St. Clair County Medical Health Officer Dr. Annette Mercatante regarding the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
