Two killed in weekend motorcycle accident

A boyfriend and girlfriend from the Thumb area are dead after the motorcycle they were on crashed into an SUV over the weekend. The Lapeer County Sheriff’s Department says 53-year old Brian Stamp and 51-year old Rhonda McHaffy of Marlette died Sunday on M-24 north of Lapeer . They are believed to have been struck head on by a northbound  SUV driven by a 45-year old from North Branch. Deputies say the SUV crossed the center line, entering into the path of the motorcycle. The driver and passenger of the bike were pronounced dead at the  scene and the driver of the SUV was taken to an area hospital for treatment. The Lapeer County Sheriff’s continues to investigate the accident and it is unknown at this time if drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.
