City council OKs improvements to boat launch

Improvements are on the way to the Riverside Boat Launch and McMorran arena. In a special session meeting of Port Huron City Council last night, council members approved new full color LED lights for McMorran Arena and a rebuild of the Riverside Boat Launch. Council approved a bid of $118,000 dollars from LED North America for the replacement of existing lights and the installation of new full colored LED’s for the arena. City Council also approved a nearly $431,000 dollar bid from Raymond Excavating for the work at the Riverside Launch. Up to $300,000 dollars of that will be covered by a matching grant from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources Trust Fund. Also announced yesterday, the City of Port Huron has received  the necessary permits to begin dredging on the Black River Canal. Subsequently, the canal between Gratiot and Lake Huron will be closed through Wednesday for dredging.
