The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning through Saturday evening for the southern half of the lower peninsula, as heat index values Friday could exceed the 100-degree mark, prompting the opening of several cooling centers throughout the county. All St. Clair County library buildings will be open as cooling centers today. Furthermore, the Kimball Township Fire Station and the Fort Gratiot Township hall will also serve as cooling centers. If you plan on attending the Blue Water Fest in Port Huron, Sargent Doug Decker of the Port Huron Police Department says water is your friend. “Even if you’re not drinking alcohol, you need to stay hydrated… we don’t want any heat causalities,” said Decker. He adds that if you’re coming downtown, be sure to take heed of the festival’s open alcohol rules. No alcoholic beverages are allowed to enter or exit the festival footprint, however once inside, attendees can walk around with adult beverages. Decker says police will be stationed at the festival entrances to make sure no alcohol enters or leaves the Blue Water Festival footprint.
