The St. Clair County Sheriff’s department has deputized seven police officers from Clay Township to help enforce no wake laws. According to Sheriff Tim Donnellon, high water levels have increased the need to crack down on boaters creating excessive wake. The officers were sworn in as Sheriff’s Deputies because local police officers do not have jurisdiction over the county’s waterways. Sheriff Tim Donnellon, in a statement, says he is, “Pleased to be able to add these officers as a force multiplier,” and that they will, “Assist in keeping damage along the shoreline to a minimum.” So far this boating season, St. Clair County Sheriff’s Deputies have issued 19 no wake violations.
