Governor Gretchen Whitmer has ordered U.S. and Michigan flags within the State Capitol Complex and on all state buildings to be lowered to half-staff today to honor Peace Officers Memorial Day during Police Week and remember those who lost their lives in the line of duty. Peace Officers Memorial Day falls within National Police Week, which was established by Congress in 1962 to recognize law enforcement officers who lost their lives in the line of duty. This year, Peace Officer Memorial Day recognizes three Michigan police officers killed in the line of duty in 2018: Officer Glenn Anthony Doss, Jr.; Officer Darren Maurice Weather; and Officer Fadi Mukhlis Shukur.
