The United Way of St. Clair County is announcing some of the local programs and organizations that are benefiting from this past year’s fundraising campaign. At an event yesterday, the United Way dolled out $81,000 to five organizations who help teach youth life skills. Among the organizations in attendance were S.O.N.S. Ministries, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, The Harbor, and The ARC of St. Clair County. Dan Damman, 2018 campaign chair, says the the organizations are carefully selected by the United Way to make sure donor dollars are used correctly. “They go through the citizens review committee… once they’re an affiliated organization then they can bring their programs forward to seek funding for those programs,” said Damman. “There’s 43 programs this year that will be funded by United Way dollars.” Damman adds that about $1.2 million was raised in last year’s campaign for the St. Clair County United Way.
