Port Huron City Council has approved a park closing time ordinance that would set new hours for most city parks. In a six to zero vote last night, Port Huron City Council enacted the new dawn-to-dusk ordinance. A similar ordinance, that would have set a blanket 9pm closing time, was tabled by council late last year after concerns from residents. The revised ordinance allows city tennis courts and softball fields to remain open during the summer as late as 11pm. Anglers along the city’s boardwalks and fishing piers are exempt from the new park hours.
Port Huron City Council meets tonight in a regular session meeting. Council members will be asked to enact a revised park closing time ordinance which would close parks at dusk with a few exceptions. Areas along the boardwalk would remain open to fishing under the proposed changes, but anglers will be asked to obey quiet hours from dusk to dawn. An exemption will also be made for lighted tennis courts and softball fields which will remain open until 11pm under the ordinance. Port Huron City Council meets tonight at 7pm at the Municipal Office Center.
