Superintendents cope with mounting snow days

The Superintendent of the Marysville Public School District says he is looking at all options on how to make-good days of school missed due to winter weather. Dr. Shawn Wightman, speaking to WPHM yesterday morning, says he was one of the first districts to apply for a waiver from the state which would cut back on the number of missed days that would need to be made up. Wightman says the district so far has canceled classes for a total of 10 days this winter, exceeding the six snow days allowed by the state. If a waiver is granted, Wightman says that would forgive an additional three days of classes but his district would still need to make up one day of school. In an effort not to extend classes into the summer, Wightman says he may hold classes for a half day on Good Friday or perhaps on the Monday following Easter. He also calls on the state legislature to take action on bill that would forgive any classes missed on days that the governor declares a state of emergency due to the weather.
