A showdown over legalizing marijuana in Michigan is expected in Lansing as lawmakers have until the end of the day to enact a recreational marijuana law, if not, the question will go on the ballot in November. Leaders in the Senate believe they have the numbers to back the initiative, though its still unclear if the House will support it. Charmian of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Rick Jones (R-Grand Ledge) tells WPHM he would like to see the legislature take up the issue so they can set quality and safety standards. Others claim it is an attempt by Republicans to avoid a surge of Democratic voters going to the polls in November. According to the state constitution, legislators have 40 days after approval of a ballot initiative by the state board of canvassers to take action on the item, if not, it is sent to the voters for their approval.
