DTE Energy testifying in front of the Michigan Public Service commission, seeking approval to build a new power plant in St. Clair County’s East China Township. DTE announced plans last year to close the coal fired St. Clair Power Plant and replace it with a $1 billion dollar natural gas power plant. Michigan’s Public Service Commission is likely to vote in April on whether or not to approve the new 11-hundred megawatt power plant. According to Bridge Magazine, the retiring St. Clair Power plant provides more than 40 percent of the township’s $2.5 million annual budget.
