The suspect involved in the serious injuries of an 11-month old Peck girl has been arraigned on child abuse charges. 22 Year old Derek Paehlig of Deckerville is facing charges of first and second degree child abuse. He is housed in the Sanilac County Jail on a $500,000 bond. The Sanilac County Sheriff’s department says the 11-month old child was assaulted during the morning hours Wednesday while she was in the man’s care. The girl was taken to McKenzie Memorial Hospital and then later transported by helicopter to a Flint area hospital for treatment of serious injuries. A preliminary exam for Paehlig is scheduled for February 20th.
