Marysville voters support schools

Landslide victory for the Marysville School District Tuesday night as voters overwhelmingly approved a non-homestead property renewal. Dr. Shawn K. Wightman, Superintendent of Marysville Schools, says tax payers in his district understood the need for the renewal. He credits a more informed electorate for the millage’s passing, as other initiatives struggled in neighboring districts. Wightman says he was concerned when Governor Snyder signed legislation that would limit the ability of governmental units in the state to comment on proposals two months prior to the vote. But thanks to a judges order to ease up on state legislation concerning election information, school officials were able to communicate with voters in the district about the importance of the millage.
