It may be the most wonderful time of the year today for local State Representative Dan Lauwers. Today is Ag Day at the state capitol and the House’s head of the Agriculture Committee says Michigan is a great state for such commodities. He notes the local area is ripe with agriculture production with sugar beets being the unique item. Cereal is the traditional Ag product the state is known for while grapes and hops are quickly moving up the ladder. Lauwers notes there is also a huge amount of time on research in Michigan on agriculture. Michigan State is tied into wheat studies for wheat production, used of course in the cereal industry. Lawmakers and others involved with agriculture will be introduced to a number of items today at the capitol, and will even be able to sample a few treats. The ag day program at the capitol is sponsored in part via the Michigan Farm Bureau. Other Ag days across the state include regional observances in Lapeer, St. Clair, Huron, and Sanilac counties.
