18 year old charged in death of tow truck driver

A warrant has been signed in relation to the crash that killed Preferred Towing truck driver and owner Jason Schultz on January 15th. Trent Fletcher Sheldon, 18 of Fort Gratiot Township, is charged with operating while intoxicated causing death, a 15 year felony, and commission of a felony with a motor vehicle. Toxicology reports from the Michigan State Police Crime Lab showed that Sheldon had marijuana in his system at the time of the crash. According to police, on the morning of January 15th, Shultz was pulling a vehicle out of the ditch on North Road when Sheldon passed the truck on the shoulder, striking and killing Shultz. The driver of the vehicle in the ditch was also struck and taken to the hospital for treatment. Sheldon was arraigned Thursday in 72nd District Court in Port Huron, with bond being set at $250,000 or personal recognizance. His next court appearance will be on March 1st for a probable cause hearing.
