Work crew inmate escaped in stolen DPW vehicle

According to the Sanilac County Sheriff’s Office, a work crew inmate escaped on Thursday afternoon in stolen a DPW vehicle. The inmate was was washing vehicles at the Carsonville Fire Department when he and the vehicle were discovered missing. The inmate was observed headed away from the scene, and an area broadcast was put out to area police agencies. While the search was taking place Chief McGinnis of the Marlette Police Department located the stolen vehicle and attempted to make a traffic stop. During the pursuit, the vehicle left the roadway and got stuck stuck in a field. The inmate fled on foot and was apprehended by police on Centerline Road. The 20-year-old inmate from Marlette has been returned to the Sanilac County Jail, removed from the Work Crew Detail and is being held pending further charges.
