The water crisis in Flint isn’t going away any time soon. Congressional hearings have begun to try and find answers as to why this problem happened in the first place. A hearing held this week was missing some Michigan officials, as well as emergency financial managers appointed by the Synder Administration, says U.S Representative Dan Kildee from Flint. Rep. Kildee was on the Paul Miller show this week and says one of the first actions the Governor’s Office took in response to the Flint water crisis was to activate his private non-profit organization to initiate a massive public relations response. Kildee notes that this is not a public relations issue, but a public health crisis. Congressman Kildee says he’s been concerned by the Governor’s response to this crisis since it started and has invited Governor Snyder to testify before House Democrats’ Steering & Policy Committee hearing, entitled “The Flint Water Crisis: Lessons for Protecting America’s Children”, on Wednesday, February 10th at 2:00pm. Kildee has also introduced legislation in the U.S. House of Representatives, focusing on immediate and long-term investments for the city of Flint. The legislation comes after weeks of conversations with city leaders and community stakeholders about what resources are needed to help families and the city recover from this man-made crisis.
