The Selfridge Air National Guard Base received some good news on Thursday for its fleet of A-10 Thunderbolt attack fighter planes. They will remain in operation, at least for now. On Tuesday, U.S. Defense Secretary Ash Carter announced the Air Force will push back retiring the jets, also known as “warthogs,” until 2022. U.S. Representative Candice Miller, a Republican from Harrison Township, praised the move, saying after years of trying to divest the A-10 fleet, the administration was no longer able to ignore the aircraft’s unparalleled performance.
