Remembering the piano man

A huge loss for the Port Huron area, that’s the feeling many have with the passing of Jonny Needham. The Port Huron musician died this week at the age of 73. Needham was called the piano man and you probably heard him, sometimes without even realizing it, at local weddings, banquets, campaign party’s, and about everything Irish. Terry Nolan of the Irish Rose talked with our Paul Miller about Needham, saying one of her fondest memories was a chance beach meeting after he called his friend to get together. Needham was a former Grand Marshal with the St. Patrick’s Day Parade. He is also remembered as a school guidance counselor, a substance abuse counselor and music director for a psychiatric hospital. He retired as director of counseling at L’Anse Cruise North High School. The Pollock Randall Funeral home is handling arrangements. Services are set for Saturday, February 6th with visitation from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 Friday, February 5th.
